“Loose Ends”

December 23rd, 2010

Hi everyone and welcome once again to The Thursday Blog.

Well what a year it has been and it is almost coming to an end. I have realised that over this year and probably last year too, I have told a lot of stories and left a few loose ends untied. This could be for two reasons: 1 – to built suspense and leave the audience passionate to tune in next week; or 2 – because of lack of planning. I am happy to annouce that it is option one and I will now tie up those loose ends in an episode called:

“Loose Ends”

Weight:
Twice in the last 3 months I wrote an episode on my weight hoping it would be my last as on the day of posting I would of hit my goal. I was way off the mark and it took me many more weeks of painful dieting to get to my goal. The funny thing is I did get to my goal of a BMI of 22 a good two weeks before my due date, the only problem with that is that I celebrated. All it took was some Thai food with some rice for lunch and an Indian dinner the next night to throw me right off course. I hit my goal on Saturday and by Monday I had put on 1.6 kg (3.4 lb)!!!! I had two weeks until my deadline so I was back on the diet for the whole 2 weeks and I weighed on due date a further 800 grams (2lb) under my goal (in the positive sense). So I have finally done it and the last 5 days of being free of diets have been amazing. I keep thinking to myself ‘I can eat whatever I want……. wow’.

Saying that I am being extremely sensible and will not put back on the weight but it is a whole lot easier to eat healthy and maintain than eat healthy and lose weight. Next year is going to be great.

Job:
6 months ago I posted an episode about my job. Everyone I know thinks I work for my friend Dave Wakerley. This in many ways is true but in the traditional sense of employment I do not but instead work for a Bank. I know, FMD in a Bank, it is unheard off. Come on guys we have been through this already. Well 6 months ago I went from Assistant Bank Manager to a Senior Business Analyst in head office. Even though these jobs were on the same level, this was a major step up in career advancement as there were more different job opportunities in head office. Well the 6 months is up and we have gone through a fairly major structural change to the department I was in and in the upshot my contract is not being extended.

Now don’t freak out. Because I was on a secondment, at the end of the 6 months my department could choose to offer me a full time position (which they could not) and if they did I could choose to accept or to go back to store. Going back to store would be slightly tricky as they already hired a replacement when I had left but they had to find me a store. The scary part is they were within their right to place me anywhere including banks over an hours travel away.

The funny thing is this. I was in a meeting with my current boss where she told me that my contract is not being extended and the second it finished, my old area manager stuck his head in the room and asked for a word. I went and spoke to him and he offered me a really great store not too far from home. So after holidays I am back in store which I am so happy about. Head office was not for me and being in store actually gives more room for what I really want to do in life.

Family and Christmas
My Princess’ are incredible. My Little Princess has just turned 13 months and is just perfect. She takes after her Mother. My Princess is constantly amazing me by how she grows more beautiful everyday (even when I didn’t think it was possible). We have just celebrated our 2nd Christmas in Tasmania yesterday. We spent it with my parents, my sister and her husband and two kids, my other sister and my brother. We did all the traditions, gave out presents, Santa came in the night (though he only gave healthy things) and we had a great time. Today (the day after) we relaxed and I had to pop into town and wondered why it was so busy on Boxing Day?

For those of you who are celebrating Christmas on the traditional 25th December I want to wish you a very Merry Christmas and pray that time spent with family and friends is special.

No more loose ends to tie up except to say

Have Fun.

Dan
